Governor’s Educator/Service Provider of the Year Award - Do you know a Watchung teacher or educational services professional who is dedicated, inspiring, and making a difference? If so, please take the time to recommend them for the Governor’s Educator of the Year Program by completing this nomination form and returning it to the building principal by the specified deadline. Administrators, staff members, students, parents and community members are encouraged to participate. Click for a nomination form . Please return this form to the building principal by November 3rd.

School Action Team (SATp) - Since I have been at Watchung, I have had a goal of strengthening Watchung's School Action Team for Partnerships. That goal had to be put aside because the pandemic hit but I am bringing it back. In accordance with the MPS Policy 2419, the SATp will exist as a standing committee under the leadership of the building Principal, in collaboration with the PTA. I have developed a framework for the Watchung’s SATp that I am looking forward to implementing this year.

I am currently looking for two people to co-chair the SATp and other members of the community that would like to join one of our sub-committees. Please reach out to me if you have interest or would like to hear more

Lost & Found – Our lost & found is already growing at a rapid pace. This is the time of year, when students wear sweatshirts to school and then take them off as the day warms up that it begins to overflow. If we find items and they have a name on them, such as a lunch box, water bottle or sweatshirt, we call the student down and return it. Only un-named items end up in the lost and found. So please label everything!!! Over-label!!

Dyslexia Super Power Poster Contest – The Montclair NAACP Education Committee Dyslexia Task Force is sponsoring a poster contest open to Montclair students in grades PreK-12! October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. Individual and group submissions are encouraged. The deadline for submissions is Friday, October 22, 2021. Please see flyer for more details!

Montclair Public Schools Pre-School program - Typically Developing Preschool age children (ages 3 and 4), residing in Montclair, are eligible to attend. Space is limited. Click Here for more details

Proper fitting masks – For the most part, I think our students have done a great job wearing their masks during the school day. It is not an easy thing to do. I have noticed some of our students entering the building with masks that are too large for them and when this happens they fall down and students are not able to cover their nose and mouth. Please make sure you are sending your child to school with a proper fitting mask. This will make it easier for them to keep it on. Thank you for your cooperation.

Updating the Nurse - Please make sure that you are including Nurse McShane in any communications regarding the health of our students. Many emails are going just to teachers or myself. It is important that Nurse McShane is included because she is the person in the building who will be providing guidance to families.

Montclair Public Schools Covid-19 Guidance Click here to view a document that has been place on the district webpage. This document was created by the Montclair Health Department and has been reviewed by our district Physician. The document gives you guidance in the event that someone you know or you test positive for Covid-19.

From the PTA:

PTA Meeting - Thank you to all who attended our first PTA meeting last night! It was a great turnout. In case you have not joined the PTA you can do so by going directly to our PTA Memberhub.

You don’t need to become a member to attend meetings or participate in or volunteer at events but you do need to become a member in order to vote at meetings. And your membership dues help fund our initiatives!

Playground Party – As we announced last night, the PTA is throwing a party to celebrate our new playground on Sunday, November 7 from 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm provided the playground is open and ready for play by then. We are hopeful it will be!

A small committee has been formed but if you are interested in helping out please email Alex Schulz.

Election Day Bake Sale - We will hold our annual election day bake sale on Tuesday, November 2 from 9:00 am – 5:00 pm. This Election Day should bring out more voters so we are hopeful we will have a good turnout to purchase our sweet and savory items! Please take a look at the sign up genius if you are interested in helping out at the table or contributing an item for the sale! And please stop by to support us!

Sabor Montclair - On October 30th, the Montclair Fund for Educational Excellence (MFEE) is hosting Sabor Montclair, a fundraiser to support the growth of its newest program Navegadores Escolares. Simply pre-order a tasty take-out meal, and you will be donating to help grow and expand Navegadores Escolares. And now all donations up to $5,000 will be matched by an anonymous donor! Navegadores Escolares supports our growing community of English Language Learners. ELL students and their families face significant barriers to meaningful participation in our schools and community; language and other barriers also make it difficult to access resources. MFEE has been recruiting, training and supporting Spanish-speaking “parent navigators” who are matched with an ELL student and their family. The navegador provides direct hands-on support to help the student and family thrive in our schools and community. To learn more, donate, and to reserve your dinner, please visit

Jack O’Lantern Carving Contest - The Kiwanis Club of Montclair is sponsoring its Second Annual Pumpkin Carving Contest for grades K-12! Take a photo of your jack o’lantern and enter via the club’s google form by October 28. Please see flyer for more information!
kindly, Patty, Alex, Jen and Hillary

Have a great weekend!
